Jewellery care

Looking after your NvbyK jewellery

NVBYK creates jewelry made of long-lasting and high-quality materials. We understand the importance of durable and long-lasting jewelry, which is why our designes are made to last for years to come.
When we wear jewelry, it becomes an extension of us. Not only do the pieces we wear come in close contact with our bodies, but they also come in close contact with the environment (salt/chlorinated water, harsh substances, detergents, chemicals, dirt, etc.). The more you wear a piece of jewelry, the more susceptible it becomes to wear and tear.

Care instructions

Please follow these steps to ensure your beautiful jewellery lasts for a long time.

Wearing
Silver jewellery will naturally tarnish over time. Always protect your jewellery from knocks, scratches, chemicals, sunlight and heat/cold to minimise these effects.
We recommend removing jewellery when you shower or bathe and particularly when on the beach, in the sea and in chlorinated water.
Avoid spraying perfume or applying creams directly onto your jewellery.
Keep away from extreme temperatures, humidity and sunlight, and avoid wearing your jewellery when using bleach.

Storing
To protect your jewellery, pieces should be individually placed in a pouch or within a soft lined box to stop them being scratched or tangled. Ideally store your jewellery in a dark, cool and dry place, and try to keep pieces apart, so that they don’t rub together or tangle up.

Cleaning
Silver or gold-filled/gold-plated metals
Using a soft, lint free cloth is an effective way to keep silver, gold-filled or gold-plated jewellery looking shiny and new. A silver cleaner can also be used to clean sterling silver pieces. Ideally, store silver pieces in an airtight bag to help reduce tarnishing. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean metal as they can cause scratching.

The PH levels in our skin also play a big role in how fast a piece of jewelry becomes discolored and oxidized. The fact is, we all have natural body processes, and jewelry is more prone to become discolored when the wearer has higher levels of PH on their skin.

Remember: taking care of your jewelry is just as important as wearing it! That’s why we will take you through the steps to keep your jewelry shining and bright. Read on to find out how to take care of your gold-filled or 925 silver jewelry.

Here are some tips on how to care for your gold-filled and 925 silver jewelry:

– Polish off your jewelry using a soft polishing cloth. This will help maintain its shine.
– Safe in the water but avoid contact with perfumes, detergents, and other skincare products.
– Avoid exercising in your jewelry or going into chlorinated pools.
– Rinse with warm water after swiming in the ocean.
– When discolouration or oxidization occurs use SILVER CLEANING liquid, wipes or any other silver cleaning product. They work both on silver and gold-filled materials.

Gemstones
Since many gemstones are quite delicate, hot water, harsh chemicals and cleaners should be avoided at all times. We advise cleaning your stones with a clean, soft, damp cloth after wearing. Very porous stones such as turquoise and lava should be cleaned using an untreated, dry, soft cloth only. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean gemstones as they can cause scratching.

Pearls originate from oysters. Each one is unique and can take years to form, which is why they are such a highly sought-after piece of jewelry.
Here are some tips on how to care for them:
– Do not wear your pearls in water.
– Remove them when you swim, shower, sleep, or exercise.
– Avoid contact with detergents, skincare products, and soaps – these can dull your pearls.
– Clean your pearls with a soft cotton cloth.
